Development of Iron Phosphate Ceramic(IPC) waste form for immobilization of Chloride-containing and Off-Gas Scrubber solution radioactive wastes

The objective of this research is to develop iron phosphate ceramic (IPC)waste form with converter slag and test immobilization ability and physicochemical characteristics for IPC to be used for KCl-LiCl eutectic salt and off-gas scrubber solution wastes containing 99-Tc (or Re). We expect the cost of waste form production to decrease by using POSCO converter slag instead of iron oxide such as FeO, Fe2O3 and Fe3O4. In addition, we confirm a new possibility for development of iron phosphate ceramic with converter slag and immobilization ability for iron phosphate ceramics to stabilize radionuclide in LiCl-KCl eutectic salt and off-gas scrubber solution based on the results from characterizing physical properties by compressive test, SEM-EDS and XRD analysis, and estimating leachability by EPA 1315 and reductive capacity of IPC waste form by Ce(IV) and Cr(VI) method.
